V-belts are one of the most widely used power transmission belts today, commonly applied in air compressors, industrial fans, pumps, processing machines, and manufacturing equipment. With various types such as classical V-belts, cogged V-belts, narrow V-belts (SPZ–SPC), and hexagonal belts, V-belts meet a wide range of requirements from light-duty to heavy-duty industrial applications.

If you are looking for an efficient, cost-effective, and easy-to-maintain power transmission solution, Belota is pleased to introduce our V-belt product range.

What Is a V-Belt?

A V-belt (also known as a classical belt or wedge belt) features a trapezoidal cross-section, specifically designed to transmit power and torque between rotating shafts. Thanks to its unique profile, the belt fits tightly into the pulley groove, ensuring stable transmission and high efficiency with minimal slippage. V-belts are engineered to deliver reliable torque transfer in various industrial drive systems.

Structure of a V-Belt

A typical V-belt consists of the following layers:

  • Compression rubber layer: Located at the bottom of the belt, made from synthetic rubber. This layer absorbs vibration and generates friction when contacting the pulley groove.

  • Tensile cord layer: The core of the belt, composed of polyester, nylon, or aramid (Kevlar) cords. It provides high tensile strength, limits elongation, and reduces heat buildup during operation.

  • Outer protective layer

    • Rubber cover: Protects the tensile cords from dust, oil, grease, and UV exposure.

    • Fabric cover (optional): Enhances abrasion resistance, improves grip, and extends belt service life.

Key Advantages of V-Belts

  • V-shaped cross-section: Ensures firm pulley engagement, reduces slippage, and improves torque transmission.

  • Space-saving design: Narrower than flat belts, ideal for compact machine layouts.

  • Low tension requirement: Operates efficiently without excessive belt tension, reducing wear and extending service life.

  • Optimal operating speed range: Performs best between 300 and 2,130 m/min, suitable for many industrial applications.

  • High power transmission capacity: Multiple belts can be installed in parallel for increased load handling.
